What is the online GLA:D program?

 

GLA:D®, or Good Life with Arthritis: Denmark, is an education and exercise program which has been proven to be effective in those with hip or knee pain. Benefits include reduced pain, improved function, and reduced dependence on pain medications. For more details of the actual program read HERE.

Are online treatments effective?

 

Yes.

Patient education and strengthening exercise are cornerstones of the most effective management of osteoarthritis according to the medical research literature. These can both be delivered effectively using online platforms. In an Australian study of nearly 150 people with longstanding knee pain showed that online physiotherapy-prescribed home exercises and online education were effective in reducing pain and improving function in the short- and long-term (Bennell et al. 2017). 

 

What are the benefits of online treatment?

 

In addition to proven positive outcomes, there are numerous other demonstrated benefits to online treatment:

When is the program run?

 

The supervised exercise classes and seminars are run over a 6 week period, with:

-Classes held on Monday (2.30-3.30pm), Thursday (2.30-3.30pm) and Saturdays (8-9am);

-Assessments done prior to the 6 weeks and at a 3 month follow up.

 

What do I need?

 

A computer or phone to have access to video-calls and a quiet space of 2-4 metres to be able to exercise at home. We can provide a home exercise pack (including therabands and a slider) for your group exercises.  These home-kits can be delivered to your home if you live within 10km of the clinic (1622-1624 High St Glen Iris).

-If you live < 5km from the Clinic (FREE delivery);

-If you live 5-10km from the Clinic (a small delivery fee of $10 applies)

-If live >10km, then you will need to organise a pick up at the clinic for your pack.

What is the cost?

 

The total cost of the program is $450.

Rebates (Private Health, Medicare Care Plans) are available for initial and follow-up online physiotherapy sessions.

This cost also includes your home exercise pack.
