National Nutrition Week 2020

09 Oct National Nutrition Week 2020

National Nutrition Week 2020 is from the 11th to the 17th of October. Each year, Nutrition Australia hosts National Nutrition Week with their ‘Try for 5’ campaign. This campaign is aimed at encouraging Australians to increase their vegetable consumption to meet the recommended daily serves of five vegetables per day.

You hear it time and time again, eat your vegetables, but sadly it seems the message isn’t being listened to with only 4% of Australians meeting their daily recommended serves of vegetables. Vegetables provide an abundance of vitamins and minerals that are important to our health. Different coloured vegetables contain different nutrients which is why variety is so important, but overall eating your daily serves is key. This can be fresh, frozen, canned, dried or juiced, what ever it takes to get your serves in!

So what does a serve of vegetables look like?

How can I include more vegetables in my day?

  1. Include in a smoothie – add frozen zucchini chunks for a creamy consistency or a handful of baby spinach for colour.
  2. Chop fresh, crunchy vegetables (carrot, cucumber, capsicum) with dip at snack times.
  3. Grate or finely chop to cook into a Bolognese sauce.
  4. Aim for at 2-3 coloured vegetables at main meals

This year, the Try for 5 campaign presents an exclusive collection of vegetable-focused recipes, tips and information to inspire you to include more vegetables in your day.
